5 Clingy Dog Breeds That Love Being Around Their Owners

Dogs make the ultimate loyal companion, but some breeds are more clingy than others. From Cocker Spaniels to Skye Terriers, these dependent dogs often follow their owners all the time, no matter where they go.

“The benefits of dog ownership are vast, including having a positive impact on our physical and mental health,” Bill Lambert from the Kennel Club tells Country Living. “Equally, dogs love spending time with their owners, whether that’s cuddling up at home or out and about on a walk, however there are certain breeds that are known for their incredibly loyal and devoted nature.”

Do remember that any dog’s behaviour and attitude depends on its training, socialisation and individual personality. On that note, take a look at the dog breeds that love being around their owners the most…

1. Cocker Spaniel

“Happy, gentle Cocker spaniels known for their merry nature and ever-wagging tail are real all-rounders. Originally bred as a skilled working dog, they are also very popular family dogs,” Bill tells us.

“They love to exercise and explore new territories, but at the same time will shower their owners with gentle affection. They can be harder to train but will reward patient owners with devotion.”

2. Skye Terrier

“Originally bred in Scotland to hunt, Skye Terriers are devoted companion dogs, famously owned by Queen Victoria. They are loyal to their owners and can be distrustful of strangers, but are generally calm dogs.”

3. Tibetan Spaniel

“Tibetan Spaniels enjoy spending downtime with their owners, whether that means watching them at work or sharing a cuddle! They are intelligent, as well as affectionate and loyal to their owners.”

4. Deerhound

Bill tell us: “One of the tallest pedigree breeds, and a vulnerable native breed, the Deerhound is a calm and friendly companion. Known for being obedient and easy to train, they are also very eager to please their owners. That being said, because of their size, they do need owners that can provide them with more than two hours exercise a day and access to a large garden to keep them mentally and physically stimulated.”

5. German Wirehaired Pointer

“German Pointers are gentle and affectionate dogs that are well-known for being incredibly loyal. They are also a very active breed who love being outside, with origins as a hunting dog, so will need plenty of exercise and attention.”
